Product Review: KleanColor Metalic Mango Nail Laquer

November 4, 2012

As many of you know (or may not know) I dip my hands into many different ventures. Mostly to support my one main venture that is Bitten by Books! Hey can I help it I love to read? My newest adventure is online auctions selling all kinds of goodies, from my handmade jewelry also sold on A Charming Time, fashion bags, scarves and yes nail polish!

Woohooo for nail polish. I am a total color whore, so you are probably going to see a few of these posts from me in the coming months, well maybe. lol First though a shameless self promotion on where you can get some of these lovelies Tuesday night and hear me live on the microphone talking about them.

So be sure to turn your volume up so you can hear me! Go here: http://www.outbid.com/auctions/4774-all-about-nails-auction and RSVP, it will ask you to register and when you do, you get a $5.00 credit that you can use towards your first purchase on Outbid.com. You have to take a mini survey (I think) but it is painless. When you RSVP you can set it up to message you on your cell phone AND it will send you an email an hour before the auction. They also have an iPhone app. that you can download here.

So, please tweet and share this on Facebook and bring your friends and chat with me, buy some awesome nail polish and have some fun! Okay on to the review. :)

KleanColor is a relatively inexpensive nail polish that touts itself for being long lasting, chip proof, fast drying with great coverage. They have over 250 colors and counting, so there is no limit to how many colors you can try. My choice for today’s review is Metallic Mango!

It is a rich orange/copper color with a great metallic gloss to it. It is nice and shimmery. I have had a lot of trouble with nail polishes in the past that just come right off within a day or two, sometimes the SAME damn day. Frankly I had given up on wearing them for several years, but kept buying all these great colors. I decided to pick up several bottles of KleanColor because I had read some many great reviews on them.

I sure am glad I did. Metallic Mango is the first one I tried.  As you will see from my pictures below the color is very striking. It goes on really easy, it isn’t goopy or drippy. This polish lasted almost 5 days before starting to wear off in places. Now, I have always had problems with polish just peeling right off or chipping. Metallic Mango did none of these things. I put on two coats. It says fast drying, but it did take about the same time as a normal polish to dry. I am a bit heavy handed with my coating though. It was about 4.5 days before I took it off, and I probably could have done another day and gotten away with it.

Here’s what the color looked like on my hands. It is an awesome Falliday color and winter color all around. I LURVVV it! I really didn’t want to take it off, but I have so many more colors I want to try and review for you all. LOL I used OPI Nail polish remover to take off the polish. The metallics seem to take a bit more oomph to remove, so I make sure to saturate my cotton pad and let it sit for about 20 seconds on the nail before rubbing it off. That really helped. In a nutshell I give this color and brand 5 stars. It goes on smoothly, is long lasting and doesn’t chip. Color wise it is stunning, I received a ton of compliments on it. Even my husband liked this one and he’s not used to seeing me wear nail polish.

Product Review: Hand it Over Mark Super Moisture Hand Cream in Jasmine Petal

November 2, 2012

Hey Everybody!

Long time no blog, obviously right? Gah, I hope you are still with me out there in blog land. I have a few pots I want to share with you today. I won’t bore you with my lame excuses as to why I have been ignoring you, I will just jump right in with this awesome product review.

I recently got some of this amazing smelling hand cream from Mark. Now, I have to admit this is my first product from them, so I wasn’t sure what to expect. Now as many of you know I live in the middle of nowhere KY and spend most of my time indoors, which translates to dry ass skin. I put a small amount of this cream on and it soaked right into my dermal layer immediately. It is not greasy or slimy in the least like some super moisturizing blends that shall remain unmentioned at this time. lol

So, I thought to myself. “self, you need more!” more is always better right? I took a double shot at it and again it soaked right in. My hands are feeling super soft now and not a tad of dry skin to be found. BONUS points for Mark! The other thing I want to talk about is the scent. Jasmine Petal. Can you say WOW!? I have real jasmine absolute in my essential oil repertoire so I *know* what the real deal smells like. This is a fairly close representation for a fragrance oil blend.

Hand it Over Mark Super Moisture Hand Cream in Jasmine Petal is a strong floral for those who don’t like a lot of scent in their hand creams. For those like me who do, this is just the ticket. I love my lotions heavily scented, so that I don’t have to wear perfume on those days. I have had this on about 2 hours or so and can still smell this. To say I am in love is an understatement. I am looking at picking up the Get Misty Jasmine Petal Body Mist to see how it fairs. It says it is a light hydrating mist, so it may not be strong enough for me. Then again it may compliment this hand cream perfectly.

It looks like you can’t buy the individual tube which is normally only $4.00 in this campaign, but you can buy a trio of scents for only $8.00 gift bagged. Not to shabby, thinking about getting that so I have a spare of this and can try the other two scents plum berry and new vanilla cream.

I will tell you that Dina is my rep now for Mark products she is also a long time reader of the Bitten by Books blog and supporter of A Charming Time. HOWEVER, this was not a paid post, this is something I am doing without her knowledge. he he he She is a very kind and loving person who will go out of her way to help others and do something nice. She also used to have a daughter named Rachel so that makes her doubly cool in my book. If you decide to check her out or her products, please let her know you read about her here on WSIMD and tell her I sent you. AGAIN I get NOTHING from this. I am just paying it forward for a great friend and a great product. I hope you enjoyed today’s episode from the Desk!

Decays, Decays, Decays

April 27, 2011

I am a wanna be make up fashionista. Is there such a thing? Who knows, I hardly wear any make up anymore because lets face it, I rarely leave my room or my house. And here in the buckle of the Bible belt there aren’t to many highfalutin’ places to dazzle folks with your high class cosmo-etics if you get my drift. It’s more of a Wet N’ Wild country down here.

I digress to my current decaying NIGHTMARE product. I had purchased a few Urban Decay products back in the day when they first came out years ago. When I was still somewhat of a cutie. But I was somewhat loathe to buy any of their products site unseen from their website since it had been so many years and it is really hard to tell color online. At least for me it is. If some of you have some unknown ingenious technique for doing so, please step right up and share.

FINALLY last November I took the plunge and purchased some products. I bought a tube of Wicked Lipstick, which is the item of my wrath today. One of those Killer custom lip tube holders, Revolver fragrance oil (AWESOME), All Nighter Make Up Setting Spray and received a free retrograde eyeshadow (which was the evil freebie that lured me in for the buy).

So, yes, I DID purchase this lipstick in he middle of November and it is now the end of April. Roughly 5 months ago. How long does lipstick last before it goes bad?

Because this stuff tastes like absolute shit. Sorry UD, but I almost puked when I put it on. I thought there was some kind of chemical meltdown that was happening. I have had some pretty bad stuff pass by these lips in my 40 years, and this one is right up there with rancid meat dunked in chemical waste. I kid you not. Noxious and horrifying. I was on my way out the door to a family event the first time I tried it, and I slapped some cheap Bonne Bell vanilla swirl flavored lip gloss over it before the taste really hit me. HOLY mother of decaying crap Batman. I thought it was a chemical reaction between this lovely $22.00 Urban Decay lipstick and the cheap lip gloss I had just so idiotically slapped on.  Not so my friends, it was all the lipstick. That Bonne Bell is like Manna from the Heavens right now friends. Because I had to (in the name of freaking science) try this shit on again to be sure it wasn’t that combo.

It has taken me a month, an ENTIRE month to work up the nerve to slap it on again. But now smelling the tube, you can really tell, something isn’t right, it reeks in the tube. I normally never ever tear something to shreds or curse it, but this really pissed me off. I know $22.00 isn’t the most I have ever paid for a lipstick, but dammit, it shouldn’t be bad. Do ALL of their lipsticks taste like this? Is this really taking their branding to a whole new level or did I just get a decayed tube of colored crap? What the hell Urban Decay? WTH?

I guess I will call them and see what they say. I am HOPING somebody else will come forward and tell me if this has been the case with them. or not. That it is just some fluke.

Oh dear Gods, I think I just flamed a lipstick…can my life get any more pathetic? LMFAO

Product Review: Gabrielle Faust Mineral Make Up by Overall Beauty

October 2, 2010

In a former life, I was a goth diva. This was before corporate America devoured me and spit me out as some horribly watered-down punk rocker (okay, my hair is horribly cute, but still, DAMN THE MAN!). Because of this, I jumped at the chance to sample Overall Beauty’s new line inspired by acclaimed vampire novelist Gabrielle Faust. (What? You haven’t checked out The Eternal Vigilance vampire series?? Go forth, minions!)
