Pumpkin Spice, How Do I Love Thee?

November 14, 2013

Pumpkin and Vinilla Spice polish removersAs many of you know I am ADDICTED to nail polish and colors! We finally opened up a store a few months ago at: http://patroozie.com. Because I get so many new colors to try from vendors, I am constantly changing my nail polish. Which means Nail Polish Remover! And a lot of it. I have tried so many different kinds from non acetone to acetone, moisturizing and non moisturizing. Lets face it almost all Nail Polish Remover drys your nails and cuticles out. Of course you can use lotion and all kinds of other goodies (which I will be posting on eventually) to keep your nails in shape.

But what KILLS me is the smell of the polish removers! OMG gag, acetone is so strong, but you really need it to get off the chunky glitter polishes. For regular polish you can grab some of these KleanColor Wizard Pad polish remover pads. They are acetone free and have cuticle oil right in the pad to moisturize your nails and cuticles. I LOVE these and they come in six scents.I think my favorite is Grape though I dig the orange and cherry just as much.

You cannot imagine my JOY when I ran across scented acetone polish remover at my local Sally Beauty a few weeks ago. They have Pumpkin Spice and Vanilla Spice! These are in 4 oz bottles and they really smell GOOD. Yes, you can still smell the acetone, but it is greatly reduced in my opinion. AND the scent of the remover is still on my nails which is fun. I used the Vanilla Spice over two hours ago and can still smell it on my fingers.

Overall, I actually like these and give them a 4.5 out of 5 star review. This is enough to last me a good long while, and I *think* they were $2.85 a bottle for this size.

It looks as though you will have to break down and go buy a bottle or two at the store as these are not currently available on the Sally Beauty website. What about you? What do you use to take off your polish? Have you tried a scented polish remover? What do you think of it? Looking forward to your comments, and lest us know if you pick these up! Shine on because it really is the season of PUMPKIN Everything now! lol

It Doesn’t Taste Like Crap!

November 8, 2013

Hidy Ho ladies and gentleman!

Long time no post? Yes, well the year has been rife with changes and updates to myself and the sister blog http://bittenbybooks.com. Without further ado, may I present to you my latest find….

Monk Fruit in the Raw Sweetener. Low calorie sweetener. Yep, that’s right an amazing sweetener that doesn’t taste like crap. I am always looking for new products to incorporate into my life, and this is no exception. I LOATHE anything with Stevia in it, so this is a bonus for sweeteners right here. Being a type 2 diabetic and recently having recovering from gastric bypass surgery, it is critical for me to find good tasting alternatives to unhealthy ones in my daily diet. I was nervous about purchasing this product (I bought mine at Walmart for half this price).

It actually is pretty sweet, but not overtly so to my taste buds. I used it in my coffee, which is pretty much all I wanted it for to begin with and it was delish! This is what the In the Raw Website has to say about this product.

“Try our all-new, all-natural Monk Fruit In The Raw®. Made from delicious vine-ripened monk fruit, also called luo han guo, it’s the zero-calorie* sweetener that tastes like sugar. Originally harvested in the 13th century, it’s been making life more delicious for years now. So pick up the little orange packet that’s perfectly sweet, perfectly natural and perfectly ready to enjoy.”

What this adds up to? A great product to try out. You can use this in baking as well. Hot or cold beverages, you name it, you can use Monk Fruit in the Raw It dissolves instantly. My blood sugar was fine and didn’t go up at all after using it. I didn’t taste the chemical taste that I do with most sweeteners. Here are some cooking baking and use tips at the In the Raw website. I am curious to know if you have tried this and if so what your thoughts are! Please share in the comments section below.

Do you want to create YOUR INCREDIBLE 2013?

I was introduced to the most amazing workbook and planner by a dear friend of mine. She’s been a part of a fantastic group of women since last spring and has been talking to me about them off and on and how it has changed her life. Recently she did a video review of the Incredible 2013 Create Your Incredible Year Calendar and Workbook after watching the video and seeing just how interactive and SIMPLE the book was to work with I HAD to get a copy for myself. And it is less than then bucks! I got to the site and they had multiple options, they have a personal and a business edition. Of course I wanted both, you can buy a bundle for less. They also offer an amazing opportunity to join the women’s circle where you get all of the materials they have for a yearly membership.

I was really torn, should I spend the money or not. So, I left it to a little hard work and the Universe. If It was meant to be I would have the money by the end of the day on Monday and if not, it wasn’t meant to be. Guess what! I DID It! On Christmas Eve no less. My journey to an incredible 2013 started with my amazing customers. Thank you so very much to those of you who made my dream begin. I have already started working in my workbook. It has been so freeing and I feel energized and excited to bring you more new jewelry and product lines in the new year. Product Review: Mama Mellace’s S’mores Mix

November 14, 2012

OMnomnomGnomnomcrunchgodscrunchdroolsofreakingawesometasticallygasmicallygood. Have you all tried this stuff? Jump on it! Jump on it! Jump on it! I think I just died and went to fatty chocolately goodness heaven. And Mama M. is an angel who has paved the road with this fantastic S’mores Mix. And I would probably eat it off the ground. HEY don’t knock it, it would theoretically be Heaven and have no germs right? RIGHT? Mmmkay? I digress. Back to the goodness at hand err mouth.

Country: USA

US Shipping: Can’t buy directly from their site

International Shipping: N/A

Anyways, we were in “town” 30 miles away from BFE where we currently live at the “better” Walmart looking at the snack aisle when I spied this spectacular sounding snack! Always on the look out for something new to try in this backwater we live in, I said hey lets try it. So we did. Well, I did. he he he, I haven’t shared it with anybody. It is basically a mix of mini marshmallows, graham  crackers (aka Golden Grahams cereal my favorite cereal) and chocolate chunks. How can you go wrong? Well, you can’t!

Now there are some flaws in the bag. First the chocolate chunks appear to have once been chocolate chips because there are some floating around in the bag still. So it looks like they may have melted into smallish masses, which can be kind of awkward to eat at times. And dare I say there is TOO much chocolate in the mix for my taste? It is a bit too much. I found myself wishing for more of the graham crunchies. So, I went and dumped some more of my Golden Grahams cereal in the bag and mixed it up. Perfection!

The mini marshmallows are not soft, the are semi- hard which is fine, this isn’t a soft snack mix by any sense of the word. While I was on their corporate site, I didn’t see this mix. Which makes me wonder if they are discontinuing it or just selling it to certain corporations like Wally World. I hope not. It looks as if they sold it to Amazon at one point but it is no longer available there. Here’s a  link of where to find their products.

The do offer other natural and organic snacks too. As an added bonus from their site “Mama Mellace’s products are certified by the Orthodox Union to be either OU or OU-Dairy respectively. Each item listed in Our Products highlights its kosher distinction with the nutritional information and ingredients statement.”

I can’t remember what we paid for this bag of yummy goodness. But I think it would be fairly easy to replicate if they were to stop making it. Since it has some fairly basic ingredients. So, I did a bit of googling and lo and behold somebody DID make it themselves! http://dawnye7-noideas.blogspot.com/2011/11/make-it-yourself.html After looking at the ingredients listed on this blog, I started digging around my bag and realized there were a few more things in the mix I hadn’t realized where there. LOL

So, all in all if you make it our buy it, this is a 5 star snack and I love it. I think this would be a hit at any party all year round!

This was not a paid product review, I bought this shiz myself. :)

Product Review: KleanColor Metalic Mango Nail Laquer

November 4, 2012

As many of you know (or may not know) I dip my hands into many different ventures. Mostly to support my one main venture that is Bitten by Books! Hey can I help it I love to read? My newest adventure is online auctions selling all kinds of goodies, from my handmade jewelry also sold on A Charming Time, fashion bags, scarves and yes nail polish!

Woohooo for nail polish. I am a total color whore, so you are probably going to see a few of these posts from me in the coming months, well maybe. lol First though a shameless self promotion on where you can get some of these lovelies Tuesday night and hear me live on the microphone talking about them.

So be sure to turn your volume up so you can hear me! Go here: http://www.outbid.com/auctions/4774-all-about-nails-auction and RSVP, it will ask you to register and when you do, you get a $5.00 credit that you can use towards your first purchase on Outbid.com. You have to take a mini survey (I think) but it is painless. When you RSVP you can set it up to message you on your cell phone AND it will send you an email an hour before the auction. They also have an iPhone app. that you can download here.

So, please tweet and share this on Facebook and bring your friends and chat with me, buy some awesome nail polish and have some fun! Okay on to the review. :)

KleanColor is a relatively inexpensive nail polish that touts itself for being long lasting, chip proof, fast drying with great coverage. They have over 250 colors and counting, so there is no limit to how many colors you can try. My choice for today’s review is Metallic Mango!

It is a rich orange/copper color with a great metallic gloss to it. It is nice and shimmery. I have had a lot of trouble with nail polishes in the past that just come right off within a day or two, sometimes the SAME damn day. Frankly I had given up on wearing them for several years, but kept buying all these great colors. I decided to pick up several bottles of KleanColor because I had read some many great reviews on them.

I sure am glad I did. Metallic Mango is the first one I tried.  As you will see from my pictures below the color is very striking. It goes on really easy, it isn’t goopy or drippy. This polish lasted almost 5 days before starting to wear off in places. Now, I have always had problems with polish just peeling right off or chipping. Metallic Mango did none of these things. I put on two coats. It says fast drying, but it did take about the same time as a normal polish to dry. I am a bit heavy handed with my coating though. It was about 4.5 days before I took it off, and I probably could have done another day and gotten away with it.

Here’s what the color looked like on my hands. It is an awesome Falliday color and winter color all around. I LURVVV it! I really didn’t want to take it off, but I have so many more colors I want to try and review for you all. LOL I used OPI Nail polish remover to take off the polish. The metallics seem to take a bit more oomph to remove, so I make sure to saturate my cotton pad and let it sit for about 20 seconds on the nail before rubbing it off. That really helped. In a nutshell I give this color and brand 5 stars. It goes on smoothly, is long lasting and doesn’t chip. Color wise it is stunning, I received a ton of compliments on it. Even my husband liked this one and he’s not used to seeing me wear nail polish.
